“Garden City Classics” this Friday, 3rd Nov, La Dolce Vita, Al Ain

The opening concert of the Al Ain Music Festival 2017– “Garden City Classics“- is this Friday, 3rd November, at La Dolce Vita venue, Al Ain.

The Al Ain Chamber Orchestra and Al Ain Choral Society will be joined by special guest performers, including Dr Sherri Weiler and the duo, Ilya Netkach and Natalia Purochenko.

American-born mezzo-soprano Sherri Weiler received her vocal training at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (MM) and her doctorate in vocal performance and pedagogy from Florida State University (DM).
Sher6In March 1992 Weiler represented the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska, on a cultural exchange to Magadan, Russia, and was subsequently selected by Mstislav Rostropovich to sing the mezzo-soprano solo in Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with the National Symphony. These experiences helped instill a great love for and appreciation of Russian vocal literature. The singer coached Russian language and song literature for twelve years with Moscow Conservatory piano professor Svetlana Velichko; the two have a compact disc of 19th-century Russian vocal literature on the Centaur label, released in 2001, Russia: Golden Century of Song.
In Anchorage, Weiler performed the Verdi Requiem with bass Jerome Hines, Mendelssohn’s Elijah with soprano Erie Mills, and a Schubert bicentennial recital with pianist John Wustman. She has appeared with the Florida State Opera, Anchorage Opera, Sacramento Opera, Cleveland Opera, and Opera West in roles including Mrs. Grose (Britten’s The Turn of the Screw), Iolanthe (Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe), Mercedes (Bizet’s Carmen), and the Mother in Menotti’s two operas The Consul and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Other roles include Marie of the Incarnation in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites (2005) and La Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (2007), and the singer has given recitals for the University of Toledo, Willamette University and Portland State University, the Oregon Music Teachers’ Association, Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Festival of Music, the University of Alaska Anchorage, Florida A&M University, and Shorter University.
Dr. Weiler is currently Associate Professor of Music at the American University of Sharjah where she teaches applied voice, class piano, general music, and musical theatre preparation.

Ilya Netkach (violin) and Natalia Nechepurenko (piano) is an instrumental duo project, born recently in Al Ain.
Ilya-Netkach-&-Natalia-Nechepurenko-DuoIlya and Natalia met at the House of Arts Institute, where they work as violin and piano teachers, and after a few successful performances here in Al Ain they decided to create this duo in order to realise their potential and just to play good instrumental music.

Both are professional and experienced musicians. Ilya Netkach is an experienced violin teacher and concerting violinist, who composes and records his music, preferable in jazz and fusion genres. Prior to coming to Al Ain, he worked three years as a violin teacher in the number of schools in Qatar and Bahrain, where he become known as performer and jams participant. On May 2016 In 2016 his band received first place in the Battle of the Bands in Bahrain.
Natalia Nechepurenko is a highly skilled classical pianist. She is laureate and winner of a number of Ukrainian and International Festivals and Competitions, where she was performing solo and as a soloist with the orchestra, as well as she’s got good teaching experience working at Donetsk State College Music in Ukraine, as well as private piano tutor. From 2014 Natalia was working as a performing pianist on a number of cruise lines around the world.

We regret to announce that Khaled Badrieh and his Arabistica band won’t be performing at the concert this Friday. However, we hope that they will be returning to Al Ain again in the near future.

Jennifer EastwoodAlso on this programme, the duo of Jennifer Eastwood and Stephen Aston, will perform Henry Purcell’s “Fairest Isle” and “Music for a While“.

The AAMF 2017 ‘Garden City Classics’ concert will showcase the talents of a host of local musicians!
They will be joined by renowned oud player, Khaled Badrieh, and his band, Arabistica.

There is no admission charge for this concert at the la dolce vita venue, located off Khalifa Bin Zayed the First Street in central Al Ain, across the road from Al Jahili School.

Please note that this AAMF 2017 concert starts earlier than usual at 6:30 pm. on Friday, 3rd November.

Khaled Badrieh to play at AAMF ‘s ‘Classical Evening’ on 3 Nov

We are very pleased to announce that the Syrian oud player, Khaled Badrieh, has accepted our invitation to perform during the AAMF 2017’s ‘Classical Concert‘ on Friday, 3rd November.

Khaled performed to acclaim at the AAMF 2016, and this time he will be supported by his band members.

The venue for this concert is yet to be confirmed.

AAMF’s ‘Classical Serenade’ – Thursday, 3rd. November at Brighton College, Al Ain

The Al Ain Choral Society and Al Ain Chamber Orchestra have been joined on the ‘Classical Serenade‘ programme by pianist, Gulmira Abdukhalikova, and oud player, Khaled Nawaf Badrieh.

This concert starts at 7 pm. on Thursday, 3rd November. The venue is the impressive auditorium of the Brighton College, Al Ain.

Khaled Nawaf Badrieh invited to AAMF’s ‘A Classical Serenade’

The AAMF’s ‘A Classical Serenade‘ concert will be held on Thursday, 3rd November.

In addition to the local choir and chamber orchestra, several soloists have also been invited to perform.

One of these performers is Khaled Nawaf Badrieh, an oud player from Syria.
