Jason Carter – ‘Falling Upwards’

Here’s a new message about this video to AAMF supporters from the harp guitarist, Jason Carter…

“Dear friends,

After a break from making music videos for a while, I decided to emerge with something different. This music video was inspired by footage I saw by John Haddad at NYU in Abu Dhabi, shots of the ‘Holoscenes’ project – Created by Lars Jan / Early Morning Opera, Produced by MAPP International Productions. When I saw these awesome underwater images I was granted permission to use them, then there was the task of building a ‘story’ around them.

Here is the video – ‘Falling Upwards’, this is the beginning of a new era (for me) of more solid storytelling through music and film. I would love your comments and feedback as always!

For those of you who are interested the slow motion was shot on an early Black Magic URSA 4K (V2), the rest shot on the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera with Arriflex/Zeiss lenses in RAW and edited with Davinci Resolve. Filmed on Budaiya and Jazeera Beaches in Bahrain.

Holoscenes shots by John Haddad
Jason underwater shots by Jody Peck
Main images shot by Lydia Martin
Edited by me

Harp Guitar made by Sean Woolley

Thanks again to Bill Bragin at NYU, Lars Jan and MAPP Productions for the kind permission to use the underwater people shots.

With best wishes from Jason Carter “

‘Grain of Sand’ world premiere at Dubai International Film Festival

Jason Carter‘s film, ‘Grain of Sand‘ will be premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival!

Dear friends

I hope this finds you well.

I am writing to share some great news, in that Grain of Sand has been selected for showing at the Dubai International Film Festival this coming December! This will be the world premiere of the film.

Many of you know that this has been a long process with various ups and downs. The idea was born in March 2013 and the first round of filming began in October 2014. In June 2015 we decided that there was no real story with the footage we had, but every morning for another year, I would wake up and something nagged me about this theme. So I decided to shift focus to Bahrain. We filmed for 2 weeks in February this year and then it has been a process of pulling the story together.

The film raises questions of cultural identity and demonstrates how music can be a dynamic platform for intercultural dialogue, despite challenges and varying cultural expectations. If you would like to know more, here is the teaser/trailer for the actual film.

I will be keeping you posted on developments. The film showing will also feature a live performance with myself and the Bahraini pearl diving group, exact date to be confirmed.

With best wishes from Jason Carter

‘Amazing Grace’ with a message from Jason Carter

A message from Jason Carter to his friends in Al Ain…

Dear friends

It has been a while since I made a new music video due to working more in film. Recently I was transferring files over from an old hard drive and somehow lost an album that I was working on but I did manage to recover this track so I thought I would make a music video for it!

For those of you who are interested in my film activities please follow the links below. I am of course still playing and developing new material and will be sharing news soon about future concerts and collaborations.

Greetings from Karachi, Pakistan!

With best wishes from Jason Carter

Jason Carter, one of the star performers at the AAMF 2015, sent the following message…

Dear friends,

I decided to make a short video response to the situation in North Korea. Some of you will know that I spent 10 days in Pyongyang giving concerts there and this response is based upon my experience as a musician and music as a platform for intercultural dialogue.

A book will follow in the next couple of weeks, which aims to give a slightly different perspective based upon my experiences in North Korea. Info on the book will follow shortly.

Thanks in advance for watching and please feel free to share!

With best wishes from Jason Carter
