Soloists to play “A Classical Serenade”on Thurs., 3rd Nov.

Several leading local musicians will be performing solos during the AAMF 2016 “A Classical Serenade programme. Let’s find out about some of their musical backgrounds.

Many local lovers of classical music will have enjoyed the exceptionally fine concerts organised by Gulmira in the major venues in Al Ain. They will also have enjoyed her own solo performances on piano, too. Gulmira has performed to acclaim at several of the previous AAMF editions’ concerts. She has been a stalwart member of the classical music scene in Al Ain for many years now.

Gulmira Abdukhalikova was born into a family of musicians and she studied piano from an early age. Gulmira moved to Moscow and gained her Bachelor and Master’s degree as Piano Performer, Concertmaster and Lecturer from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. During that time she studied under the guidance of some of the best Russian pianists, including Stanislav Neuhaus and Yevgeny Malinin. Her training followed the traditions of the famous Heinrich Neuhaus School.
gulmira-abdukhalikovaAfter starting her career as a concert pianist in Russia, she quickly gained soloist status, being invited to play in many European and Asian countries. Her repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary composers. She was won prizes at several international piano competitions.

As well as being a concert pianist, Gulmira has always had a passion for teaching. In Almaty, she taught at the Special Music School for gifted children and at the National Conservatory. Many of her students have gone on to win prizes in international piano competitions. Furthermore, she has conducted numerous master-classes in Russia, Italy, France and South Korea.

In addition, Gulmira has served as a jury member for the 9th-11th Emirates International Peace Music Festival Competitions in Dubai; as a jury member for the Second International Festival-CompetitionArt Holidays” in Sharjah; and she was the Head of the Jury for the Open Competition for the young musicians’ “Allegro” in Sharjah American University.
Most recently, Gulmira has been the Coordinator of the First UAE Art Biennale 2016; and, since 2014, a Consultant for the Educational Outreach Program of the major “Abu Dhabi Classics’ series” operation.

khaled-badrieh-bwAnother special guest performer is Oud soloist, Khaled Nawaf Badrieh. He will be performing three pieces during this concert:
– Bint al shalabya “Folk music”
– I love you “Turkish music”
– Longa Yurgo

Khaled is originally from Syria. He has lived in the U.A.E. since 2013.

He started playing the oud in 2004 and he has won many awards including: “The Best Oud player in Syria” in 2008.

As well as playing alongside of orchestras, Khaled has recently performed solo in several of Abu Dhabi’s leading hotels, such as the Emirates Palace, the St. Regis, and the Ritz Carlton.



Paola Conte is the soloist on flute on Thursday, 3rd. November. Paola graduated from the faculty of Music of the UPN in Bogota, Colombia in 2004. And, she has recently completed her MA studies at Warwick University, U.K..

As a musician and educator, she strongly believes that classical music should be enjoyed by all children in our community.She would like local families to be more exposed to the world of classical music in a listener friendly setting. In her opinion, the classical pieces should be easy to understand, and grab the interest of the youth.

A gifted musician and performer, Paola Conte has taught flute and piano for more than ten years in Al Ain. She is now Head of Music at Al Ain English Speaking School. At the AAESS she directs the choir and instrumental ensembles, and she prepares the students for their IGCSE and A Level Cambridge music examinations.

clare-hurrellNext, we introduce the violinist, Clare Hurrell. Clare moved here from the UK 4 years ago. She had studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music on violin, before she decided to take a job out here in the Garden City. This is where she has made her home!

She is currently teaching music at Brighton College Al Ain. Clare is a regular player with the National Symphony Orchestra and Dubai Chamber Orchestra. And, as an orchestra member, she has performed with the Jackson 5 and Andrea Boccelli.

Before leaving the UK Clare performed in the Albert Hall during the 2012 Proms Season with the BBC National Chorus of Wales.

The Al Ain Choral Society and Al Ain Chamber Orchestra have been joined on the ‘Classical Serenade‘ programme by pianist, Gulmira Abdukhalikova, and oud player, Khaled Nawaf Badrieh.

This concert starts at 7 pm. on Thursday, 3rd November. The venue is the impressive auditorium of the Brighton College, Al Ain.

Five maestros from Moscow to perform in Al Ain this Wed, 18th – 8pm at Municipality Theatre

In addition to the ongoing AAMF 2015 series of events, there are several other major treats awaiting lovers of live music in Al Ain in the near future. One of them will be held this Wednesday,18th November, when five maestros from Moscow will be performing for us.

Pianist, and Honoured Artist of Russia, POLINA FEDOTOVA, will be making a very welcome return to the Al Ain Municipality Centre. This time she will be performing on a programme with four other international prize winners.
They are…

MAXIM KUZMIN-KARAVAEV, Vocalist – Since 2013 he has been a guest soloist of The Bolshoi Theatre and Novaya Opera in Moscow;

GULMIRA ABDUKHALIKOVA, Pianist – One of the key organizers of this event; currently, she is a Consultant to Abu Dhabi Classics and participates as Juror and organizer to numerous Competitions and Festivals in the U.A.E.;

ALEXANDER TROSTYANSKIY, Violinist – He is the Professor of Violin at Moscow State Conservatory; and

RUSTAM KOMACHKOV, Cellist – He is regarded as one of the most gifted cellists of his generation and regularly invited to participate with national orchestras.

They will be joined on the programme by Pianist Martin Hrsl from Prague. In 2014 he started teaching piano in the New York University, Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).

This concert is one of a series of three on consecutive evenings which are sponsored by the U.A.E Ministry of Culture, Youth & Community Development.
