Al Ain Choral Societychoir will be sharing the stage with the So Sing!choir from Sohar, Oman for a splendid “Choral Evening” concert on Friday, 7th November.
The Al Ain Choral Society choir (photo) sings music featuring a wide variety of periods and styles. Their “Choral Evening” programme will include music by Vivaldi, Rutter, Gershwin and Vaughan-Williams.
The current musical director is Stephen Aston. Stephen has been a key part of the music scene in Al Ain since he arrived in 1997. Stephen works at HCT but devotes a lot of his leisure time to music. For many years he accompanied the choir on the piano, but he began directing the choir in 2013.
All this choir’s singers are adults, but the youngest are still in their teens. Some are experienced musicians or have sung in choirs for many years, whereas for others the Al Ain choir is their first experience of singing in a group.
After the Music Festival, the Choral Society will put on a concert of Christmas music in December, with traditional carols and secular songs. This event is always very popular with singers and audience alike.
New members are always welcome – anyone who wants to know more about the choir should call Geraldine Kershaw on 050 5639719, or just come along to a rehearsal. Weekly rehearsals are from 7.30 – 9pm on Sundays in the hall at Al Ain English Speaking School.
The So Sing! choir (photo) was originally an all female choir. It has entertained audiences at the Sohar Music Festivals, including the SMF 2010 (see stage photo below). Their Director is Amy Camp.
